BABIA GÓRA – PILSKO WINTER SNOWSHOE HIKE

A WINTER WONDERLAND IN THE BESKIDS – HIKE THROUGH MAGICAL SNOWY LANDSCAPES

8–10 January 2027 3 days 6 – 10 people HUF 57,000

On the border of Slovakia and Poland lie the Beskids, not far from the Tatras but much quieter, so fewer tourists visit. The 1725 m summit of Babia Góra rises on the Beskid range – excellent terrain for lovers of winter hiking and snowshoeing. Beautiful pine forests and a cosy winter landscape welcome hikers. On the other side, north-west of Babia Góra, rises Pilsko (1557 m), which is also a local ski paradise.

Come and join us on this magical winter hike in a less touristy, adventurous region.

PROGRAMME

  1. 01

    Day one

Departure at 16:00 from Nyugati railway station 📍 map by carpool, arriving between 20:00 and 21:00 in Rabka, where we stay. After arrival: dinner, conversation and rest.

  2. 02

    Day two

After breakfast we pack our gear – microspikes, snowshoes – and after about 15 minutes' drive we reach today's starting point; the goal is the summit of Babia Góra. The route first follows a wide, flat track, but soon we enter the forest and the climb begins, lasting all the way to the summit. We stop several times to rest, and after 3 – 4 hours we find ourselves on the summit, which in good weather offers a wonderful panorama. After a short rest and refreshment we descend the way we came and return to the accommodation in the late afternoon. Time for dinner and rest.

    Walking time: 6 – 8 hoursDistance: 17 kmElevation: 980 m up, 980 m down
  3. 03

    Day three

Today we hike up Pilsko, which is a little more popular with local hikers, but we'll climb it on a less frequented route.

We set off right after breakfast so that we can get home in good time in the evening. After a few minutes' drive we reach the car park, leave the cars and head for the summit. Today's hike has less elevation and distance than yesterday: 10 km there and back and 750 metres of ascent. We reach the summit in three hours and after a short rest head back down. The scenery here is wonderful too. Arrival home late in the evening.

    Walking time: 5 – 7 hoursDistance: 10 kmElevation: 750 m up, 750 m down

During the hikes everyone takes care of their own food: sandwiches, sweet and savoury snacks, chocolate, energy bars.
