HOCHWECHSEL WINTER HIKE
AN EASY WINTER HIKE IN AUSTRIA TO THE HOCHWECHSEL
I'm inviting you on an easy winter hike in the part of Austria closest to Hungary, to the 1743 m summit of the Hochwechsel and the Wetterkoglerhaus. If you're looking for a first winter hike, this is just right for you – join us on this beautiful tour.
TOUR DIFFICULTY
This tour was designed especially for beginner winter hikers. Easy terrain and little elevation gain. Come and discover the basics of winter hiking.
Important! In the mountains many unforeseeable factors can affect the programme (e.g. changeable weather). For this reason I cannot guarantee the success of the tour and cannot accept responsibility for changes. In extreme conditions the guide always decides on changes to the programme or the route!
PROGRAMME

Departure at 06:00 from the upper Őrmező P+R car park; after 3.5 – 4 hours we arrive at the Rabl-Kreuz hut, where we leave the cars and start our little hike.
Our route follows a well-trodden path and track with a total of 435 metres of ascent, nicely spread out, so it isn't strenuous at all. About two hours after setting off we reach the summit of the Hochwechsel, which in good weather offers a wonderful panorama including the Schneeberg and Rax ranges. We rest, eat and drink a little, then return to the car park, say goodbye to Austria and head home. Arrival after 8 pm!

Good to know
Travel
We travel by carpool; those travelling to the venue on their own settle the travel costs among themselves. Those travelling by carpool share the total travel cost (of all vehicles) on average. Drivers and guides do not contribute to the travel costs. The travel cost is split between the passengers of each car, divided by the number of people in the car; the guide and the driver pay no travel costs! If you have a car and driving experience, sign up as a carpool driver!
Weather
Be prepared for changeable winter weather; wind and snow can come at any time, so bring layered, warm and waterproof clothing and suitable equipment.
Food
During the hikes everyone takes care of their own food: sandwiches, sweet and savoury snacks, chocolate, energy bars.
Insurance
Participation requires travel insurance covering the whole period, valid for mountain rescue and hospital treatment. Recommended insurer: EUB, extreme sports category eub.hu ↗
