25–28 February 2027 4 days 6 – 10 people HUF 130,000

This camp and course focuses on mastering winter mountain skills, which we practise in real alpine conditions! We show you everything you may need on winter tours: the correct use of crampons and ice axe, basic rope techniques, building hauling systems, self-arrest, how to analyse a snow profile and how to search for an avalanche victim!

+1

WORKSHOP DIFFICULTY

This course was put together for beginner and intermediate winter hikers and is a great opportunity to improve your movement in an alpine environment and learn the fundamentals of winter hiking. The terrain will be varied; we will practise on snowy, rocky ground. Good stamina is expected; 800 – 1000 metres of elevation gain is the basic requirement.

Important! In the mountains many unforeseeable factors can affect the programme (e.g. changeable weather). For this reason I cannot guarantee the success of the tour and cannot accept responsibility for changes. In extreme conditions the guide always decides on changes to the programme or the route!

PROGRAMME

  1. 01

    Day one

Early departure at 06:00 by carpool; we meet at the Kelenföld P+R car park 📍 map and drive towards Slovenia and the Slovenian Alps, which takes 5 – 6 hours. After arriving at the car park we pack up and set off for our accommodation, a winter hut, where we spend the next 3 days! (The location will be chosen according to weather and snow conditions!)

  2. 02

    Day two

Today is about equipment and theory. After breakfast we take out our gear and learn what to use and how, followed by lunch. After lunch we go out onto the terrain and practise basic movement techniques, self-arrest and the use of crampons. Once everyone has mastered the basics, we return to the hut for a well-deserved dinner and rest!

  3. 03

    Day three

Another day of practice: we add basic winter rope techniques to what we learned yesterday, together with basic avalanche knowledge! Everyone learns to use the avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel. We dig a snow profile and look for weak layers in the snowpack. There will also be a victim search and an avalanche simulation. In the early afternoon we return to the hut for rest and a theory session.

  4. 04

    Day four

On the last day there's a chance to practise anything that didn't go so well, then after lunch we head home! Expected arrival late in the evening, between 20:00 and 22:00.

Good to know

Travel

We travel by carpool; those travelling to the venue on their own settle the travel costs among themselves. Those travelling by carpool share the total travel cost (of all vehicles) on average. The guides do not contribute to the travel costs. The travel cost is split between the passengers of each car, divided by the number of people in the car; the guide and the driver pay no travel costs! If you have a car and driving experience, sign up as a carpool driver!

Weather

Be prepared for wintry, cold and changeable weather; wind and snow can come at any time, so bring warm, layered and waterproof clothing and suitable equipment.

Food

We'll eat at a restaurant. During the hikes everyone takes care of their own food: sandwiches, sweet and savoury snacks, chocolate, energy bars.

Accommodation

We will stay in a mountain hut.

Insurance

Participation requires travel insurance covering the whole period, valid for mountain rescue and hospital treatment. Recommended insurer: EUB, extreme sports category eub.hu ↗
