WINTER HIKE IN THE PROSIEK VALLEY – 30 JANUARY
WINTER WONDERLAND IN THE PROSIEK GORGE
Ladders, narrow rock passages, winter forests, frozen waterfalls and a solid hike await us this weekend. This time I'm inviting you to Slovakia, to the Chočské vrchy, for a beautiful gorge hike! The goal is to make our way between the rock walls of the Prosiek valley and then visit the old water mills of the Kvačany valley.
TOUR DIFFICULTY
This tour was designed especially for beginner winter hikers. The terrain isn't too difficult, but there is elevation gain and the weather can make things harder.
Important! In the mountains many unforeseeable factors can affect the programme (e.g. changeable weather). For this reason I cannot guarantee the success of the tour and cannot accept responsibility for changes. In extreme conditions the guide always decides on changes to the programme or the route!

We start our hike in the village of Prosiek. We pack up, check our equipment and head for the entrance of the Prosiek gorge. The valley soon narrows around us and we continue between huge limestone walls. On the rocky sections ladders help us up, which makes the passage especially exciting in winter!
If conditions allow, we also make a detour to the Červené piesky waterfall, which may be covered in ice during long cold spells. Leaving the gorge, we continue towards the Svorad plateau, then descend via Veľké Borové to the Oblazy water mills.
Here we take a break, look at the old wooden buildings and continue on the path above the Kvačany valley. We stop at the viewpoints along the way before returning to our starting point via Kvačany. After the hike: dinner and rest, as another full day awaits us tomorrow!

Good to know
Travel
We travel by carpool; those travelling to the venue on their own settle the travel costs among themselves. Those travelling by carpool share the total travel cost (of all vehicles) on average. Drivers and guides do not contribute to the travel costs. The travel cost is split between the passengers of each car, divided by the number of people in the car; the guide pays no travel costs! If you have a car and driving experience, sign up as a carpool driver!
Weather
Be prepared for changeable winter weather; wind and snow can come at any time, so bring layered, warm and waterproof clothing and suitable equipment.
Food
During the hikes everyone takes care of their own food: sandwiches, sweet and savoury snacks, chocolate, energy bars.
Insurance
Participation requires travel insurance covering the whole period, valid for mountain rescue and hospital treatment. Recommended insurer: EUB, extreme sports category eub.hu ↗
