TOUR DIFFICULTY

This tour was designed especially for beginner and intermediate winter hikers. The terrain is varied and challenging, with lots to learn and room to improve. And of course the wonderful scenery will win us over.

Important! In the mountains many unforeseeable factors can affect the programme (e.g. changeable weather). For this reason I cannot guarantee the success of the tour and cannot accept responsibility for changes. In extreme conditions the guide always decides on changes to the programme or the route!

PROGRAMME

  1. 01

    Day one

Departure at 06:00 from the Nyugati railway station car park by carpool, arriving at the Podlesok car park 📍 map . From here we head for the Hornád, where the real adventure begins. The first half of the route runs along steel walkways above the Hornád; then we cross the river and follow the Kláštorský stream, where there are ladders, until we reach the Kláštorisko hut. Here we take a longer break, then descend on a gravel road back to the car park and on to our accommodation.

    Walking time: 6 – 7 hoursElevation: 380 m up, 380 m downDistance: 11 km
  2. 02

    Day two

After breakfast we pack up and head to the Podlesok car park again, but this time we walk through another gorge, the Suchá Belá. This gorge is perhaps the most beautiful part of the Slovak Paradise: our route follows a wonderful streambed with many ladders to climb, but also fallen logs that will be slippery, so we must pay extra attention to where we step!

It's important to wear grippy, waterproof, high-cut boots, because at times we will be wading through water, snow and over frozen ground. At the top our route leads to a small clearing where we take a short break, then we descend on a winding gravel road back to the car park. We pack up and head home. Arrival late in the evening.

    Walking time: 5 – 7 hoursElevation: 650 m up, 650 m downDistance: 11 km

Good to know

Travel

We travel by carpool; those travelling to the venue on their own settle the travel costs among themselves. Those travelling by carpool share the total travel cost (of all vehicles) on average. Drivers and guides do not contribute to the travel costs. The travel cost is split between the passengers of each car, divided by the number of people in the car; the guide and the driver pay no travel costs! If you have a car and driving experience, sign up as a carpool driver!

Weather

Be prepared for changeable winter weather; wind and snow can come at any time, so bring layered, warm and waterproof clothing and suitable equipment.

Food

During the hikes everyone takes care of their own food: sandwiches, sweet and savoury snacks, chocolate, energy bars.

Insurance

Participation requires travel insurance covering the whole period, valid for mountain rescue and hospital treatment. Recommended insurer: EUB, extreme sports category eub.hu ↗
